The Gathering (formerly NewLife Community Church) is a family group of people committed to serving the community with the love of Christ in a manner that brings Glory to God. People from all walks of life over the years have come to form what is now known as The Gathering. This work originally began with Woodglenn Baptist Church and Northglenn Evangelical Free with the intent of sharing the Gospel to those in the North Denver area.

Northglenn Evangelical Free was started on December 9, 1973 under the name of Hyland Hills Community Church. Woodglenn also began under a different name – Front Range Baptist Church which constituted on May 14 1972. The actual property at 120th and York St. was purchased for $40,000 on September 20, 1973 with the original building being completed in 1974.

In 2001 both churches recognized the potential of working together as they shared common beliefs and community. Woodglenn Baptist Church and Northglenn Evangelical Free, came together to form NewLife Community Church (NLCC) under the theme “Together We Build.”

Vision and Growth:
The church’s vision was simply to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ by creating a church family that both Christians and Non-Christians would love to attend and belong. Within six years the need for more room was evident. In 2007 a two phase plan was approved that would ultimately allow for approximately 18,000 square feet of facilities including a sanctuary to accommodate nearly 300 people per service.

Phase 1, the children’s wing, was completed in 2008 adding much needed classroom space for ministry. Classrooms, designed to meet state preschool requirements, are used during the week by Merritt Academy as another way to serve our community.

The Gathering:
Shortly after completion, NLCC was renamed The Gathering to better reflect the vision of creating a family that follows Jesus together. The Gathering is paving the future history of the church by being a people who strive to seek God’s power and presence in their midst.
